What is an A Record?

The A-record or “Answer” record is the most basic and the most important DNS record type. It is used to translate domain names such as "www.domain.com" into IP-addresses such as 123.123.123.123 (An IP Address is a unique string of numbers, usually shown in groups separated by periods).
